Market Transition
Commercialization of lighting control products can be accomplished by following a product introduction and early acceptance process. Successful execution of the process will lead to a minority market acceptance later being driven into a majority position. During the rollout process a structure of checks and balances will enable slight course corrections to increase the success rate. The key to obtaining market success is a combination of having the right product, price and industry supporters. An integrated lighting control system for the commercial lighting retrofit market that can address the identified issues can establish initial market roots and be successful.
Based on success of other product introduction programs, the first step requires identifying other lighting manufacturers early on in the product development cycle to support marketing and sales activities. The IBECS technology solution will have no difficulty securing the 8 - 10 supporting companies (ballast, controls and integrators) required to obtain initial market momentum, as several companies have already indicated interest in participating in taking the system to the next step. The second step is to provide technical assistance to manufacturers endorsing the technology in order to minimize product development time. Steps will be taken throughout the project period of performance to assist supporting manufacturers in reducing their development transition period. At the conclusion of the project, supporting manufacturers will have the necessary information and core software to develop, produce, and market viable products.
The third and final step will be product introduction. In this case, the supporting manufacturers will leverage their organizations individualized sales and marketing competencies to successfully introduce the components and/or system into the market. Again the key element for success is that the product achieves the initial goals of the right product solution at the right price. This project is driven at providing a low cost solution for light control retrofit applications eliminating the industry recognized issues of wiring and installation cost and complexity.
